- I will make an individualized plan with you to control and reduce your Lymphoedema.
- I will show you a self massage plan to be performed daily at home. This promotes lymph drainage from the trouble area.
- I can provide a full body Lymph drainage massage for you.
Prevention
The Wellington Cancer Society puts out an excellent brochure which is a clear guide to cautions which may help prevent Lymphoedema developing
Mild Lymphoedema
- Mild lymphoedema is the simplest to treat.
- Outcomes are more successful as the lymphoedema is easier to shift.
- Management includes a fitting for a suitable compression garment. Compression is fundamental to management of Lymphoedema.
- Lymph Drainage massage is used.
- Exercises to promote Lymph Drainage are taught.
- Skin Care is important.
- Laser Therapy information may be offered.
Moderate to severe Lymphoedema
A referral may be made for Complex Physical Therapy which is an intense therapy involving daily massage and compression bandaging for a period of approximately three weeks.
